OSFC receive generous donation to support DofE students

Local film maker, writer and lover of the outdoors John L Matthews handed over some brand new Regatta Outdoor All Weather gear to Matt Torr, Computer Science/IT Tutor and DofE Leader at Oldham Sixth Form College, for their Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme. The donation included six pairs of Regatta fully waterproof hiking boots in various sizes both male and female, plus several Regatta fully waterproof outdoor jackets and trousers.

John said,

This gear was originally kindly donated by Regatta CEO Keith Black for an outdoor project that has since changed. We needed a new home for the kit. My daughter attended OSFC a few years ago and remember her telling me that some students could not afford to do the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme because of the expensive kit.

Matt, who regularly supports students with the expedition aspect of their Gold Award, was really appreciative of the kind donation;

We will make sure that those most in need of this gear get to use it. We always struggle kitting out everyone with proper weatherproof clothing and this will make a massive difference.

John added

I just want to thank Keith at Regatta for the original donation. I am sure he will be pleased that it now has a new home where it will be used to do some good and inspire another generation to get outdoors.
