OSFC Students Benefit from One Million Mentors Scheme

OSFC students have benefitted from support from the One Million Mentors Scheme this academic year. One Million Mentors (1MM) is a unique, community-based mentoring project with one simple aim: to connect one million young people with one million life-changing opportunities.

The programme began in March 2024 and our students are scheduled to meet with their mentors at least once a month. Topics covered in the meetings include preparing for exams, organisational skills, support with applications forms, talking about career options and interview techniques.

One of our Year 12 students who has been meeting with her mentor regularly this academic year said:

I believe that I am really benefiting from my mentoring meetings. My mentor has shared information with me that has changed my outlook on things and is helping me greatly with planning my steps for the future.

One million mentor Stuart Coulson, Cyber Ecosystem Project Manager working for the University of Manchester at the Digital Security Hub is proud to be a part of this programme:

I’ve spent over 20 years in industry and I am so honoured to be on the 1 Million Mentors programme as a Mentor. The ability to share my years of knowledge to help anyone is such a privilege. I have loved my experiences so far with the scheme and my mentee is awesome. She has had a journey in her life already and she herself wants to give back and is looking to a career in the caring profession. Life is tough for teenagers these days. There are so many draws on their time, energy and resources and add into the mix that some teenagers have had their education disrupted due to the Covid Lockdown and it is a really tough environment. Somehow though, my mentee faces up to each session with huge leaps forward in herself, her confidence is growing and she is looking at a job whilst studying. Such an incredible student and ambassador for the future workforce

We are looking forward to working with 1MM again next academic year!
