Lubna Shuja visits OSFC
On the 12th of September, we were honoured to welcome Lubna Shuja, The President of the Law Society to Oldham Sixth Form College to meet with our law students. Lubna was accompanied by The President of The Oldham Law Association & Solicitor from Pearson Solicitors and Financial Advisors , Pamela Walsh, as well as other Solicitors and trainees from Pearsons & other firms in Oldham. This was a real community event, with everyone having the objective of sharing knowledge, inspiration and good practice.
Lubna is the 178th person, first Asian, first Muslim and seventh female to become president of the Law Society of England and Wales in its nearly 200 - year history. Lubna has been a solicitor for over 30 years, specialising in family law, contractual disputes and personal injury. She gave an inspirational speech to our fortunate Law students and finished by engaging in a Q&A session.
The session was phenomenal and incredibly well received and attended, with over 300 students filling the large lecture theatre. Lubna was an inspiring speaker who challenged stereotypes and inspired so many individuals in attendance. We thank her for her time and words, truly a fascinating and insightful lecture.
One of our students, Amaima Naveed, who is studying A Level Law said,
Lubna is an inspirational dedicated asian woman providing foot steps for young women to enter into the law and breaking the stereotypes that a woman is less capable than a man, this was an important occasion to learn valuable life experience.
Laura Siddall, Course Leader for Law said,
I cannot thank Lubna, Pam and the team at Pearsons enough for giving our students this amazing opportunity, we will be forever grateful. It is important that we all contribute to the future generation of legal professionals and commit to the promotion of equality and diversity within the law.
