Ex-OSFC student thrives at Bird

Lucy Duncan studied at OSFC from 2018 - 2020. Since leaving college with A Levels in Dance, English Literature and Religious Studies and an AS Level in History, Lucy has been extremely successful, earning a place at the prestigious Bird College - Conservatoire for dance and musical theatre - in Kent.

Lucy is now studying a Professional Dance and Musical Theatre Degree at Bird and has shared details of her first year dance project with us which involved taking a stimulus word and creating a piece of dance around it. Lucy explains how over a 10 week period developing the piece, she and her classmates had the chance to work with the incredible artist Thomas Ashton and were led in improvisation tasks, shown how to interpret a stimulus, how to film dance, convey a story or concept, the importance of musicality, dynamics and individuality, and most importantly self love and trust, among many other lessons.

OSFC dance tutor Corisse Ledward described Lucy as ‘an extremely dedicated and conscientious Dance student, who was a pleasure to teach’. During her time at OSFC, Lucy choreographed coherent and exciting dance and was always able to deliver a believable performance. Lucy’s final examination results for choreography, performance and academic work at OSFC were outstanding, gaining a well deserved A* grade. We believe Lucy’s talent, coupled with her maturity and determination will take her far within the performing arts industry.

We are proud of our many students who have gone on to be successful having studied with us here at OSFC, the Dance course challenges students to be original and creative thinkers, equipping them with a broad range of skills in preparation for Higher Education and working in the Creative Arts.

Lucy’s dance piece titled ‘Creature named desire’ explored the idea of desire personified and presented the emotion as an intense all consuming entity.
