Celebrating A Third Year of the One Million Mentors Programme at OSFC

One Million Mentors is a fantastic initiative allowing students to engage with mentors from a range of local businesses and organisations. This is the third year that OSFC students have taken part in the scheme and this week we held a celebration event to mark the end of the programme for this academic year. Eighteen students have benefitted from six sessions covering topics relating to their future plans, preparation, motivation and focus. They have also made valuable contacts through their mentors.

Year 13 student, Andrew Jones, who has engaged in the programme for two years running said,

Being part of the One Million Mentors programme was an invaluable and rewarding experience. Having a supportive space to share my successes and challenges truly made a difference and helped me view things from a different angle. My mentor taught me lessons that will stay with me throughout my life.

Rosie McLaren, Social Value Manager at Willmott Dixon and Mentor, said,

The mentoring sessions have been hugely beneficial, both for us as the mentors and the students as the mentees. It's been so great to see the growth in confidence over the last few months. We ended on a high, with a celebration and reflection of our mentoring journey. Wishing all of our mentees the very best for the future!

Isabella Xenopoulos, One Million Mentors Regional Manager for Greater Manchester, is delighted with how well the programme has been received and implemented at OSFC,

The programme aims to connect people from diverse backgrounds and diverse perspectives to bring communities together. The mentors aim to support the mentees to raise their aspirations and understanding of the world of work. The commitment from everyone on the programme in Oldham this year has been fantastic allowing both students and mentors to reap the rewards of the programme!
