Author, Adele Zeynep Walton Visits OSFC

 
On Thursday 27th November, we had the privilege of welcoming author and journalist Adele Zeynep Walton to OSFC. Adele, the author of Logging Off: The Human Cost of Our Digital World, shared her insights into the emotional and psychological toll that social media can have on individuals.

During her talk, Adele was joined by students from a variety of subjects, where she opened up about the devastating impact of social media, drawing on her own personal experiences. She critically examined the role of Big Tech and the “toxic” business models driving many of these platforms, urging students to think more critically about their own social media use and its broader effects on their lives.

Adele also discussed the benefits of stepping away from the digital world, highlighting her initiative, the Logging Off Club. The club organizes social events that encourage people to disconnect from technology and engage in enriching, offline experiences. Adele even encouraged students to start their own Logging Off groups with friends.

Before wrapping up, Adele shared valuable resources and further reading materials for anyone wanting to dive deeper into these issues. Her book is available to borrow from The Know!
